At first glance, QR menus seem like a modern marvel—convenient, contactless, and efficient. But look closer, and you’ll see the cracks beneath the surface. The moment you pull out your phone to scan the code, the floodgates open. Notifications, emails, and social media beckon. Suddenly, what should have been a moment of connection at the table turns into a distracted scroll session. A simple menu becomes the gateway to isolation, pulling us further into our devices and away from the people sitting right in front of us. I am against this trend, not out of nostalgia, but out of a need to protect what makes dining sacred: human connection. A physical menu, held and shared, reminds us that some things are better experienced together, free from the glow of a screen.
